The Senate Study Committee on Eliminating Georgia’s Income Tax will hold its final hearing on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. The meeting will take place at the State Capitol in Atlanta and is open to the public. The committee will adopt its report during this session.
The committee was established by Lt. Governor Burt Jones under Senate Rules. Its purpose is to examine ways for Georgia to eliminate its income tax and provide relief to residents while maintaining fiscal stability. The group includes members from both parties who have consulted with various stakeholders such as experts, parents, citizens, businesses, and policymakers.
Senator Blake Tillery (R–Vidalia), chair of the committee, leads a panel that also includes Senators Jason Anavitarte (R–Dallas), Greg Dolezal (R–Cumming), Ed Harbison (D–Columbus), Chuck Hufstetler (R–Rome), Steve Gooch (R–Dahlonega), Nan Orrock (D–Atlanta), Michael “Doc” Rhett (D–Marietta), Larry Walker III (R–Perry) and Sam Watson (R–Moultrie).

Governor’s commitment to chart a path for the state to eliminate the income tax and provide meaningful relief to all Georgians. This bipartisan committee works with experts, parents, citizens, businesses, policymakers, and other leaders to explore effective, research-backed strategies to reform Georgia’s tax code while maintaining strong fiscal soundness.”
