The Senate Study Committee on Combating Chronic Absenteeism in Schools will hold its first meeting on August 7, 2025, at Mercer University in Macon. The committee is chaired by Sen. John F. Kennedy (R–Macon) and aims to address the causes and effects of chronic absenteeism among students in Georgia.
According to the announcement, the meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the President’s Dining Room at Mercer University and is open to the public. It will also be live-streamed on the Georgia General Assembly website.
The committee was established through Senate Resolution 217 and brings together a bipartisan group of lawmakers who plan to work with educators, parents, policymakers, and community leaders. Their goal is to identify effective strategies—such as early intervention and targeted support programs—to reduce absenteeism rates and improve student outcomes across the state.
Sen. John F. Kennedy represents Georgia’s 18th Senate District, which includes Upson, Monroe, Peach, Crawford counties as well as parts of Bibb and Houston counties.
