On January 13, Senator Greg Dolezal introduced Senate Bill 1, known as the “Fair and Safe Athletic Opportunities” Act. The proposed legislation mandates that athletes participate in sports teams corresponding to their biological sex at birth.

Senator Dolezal emphasized his commitment to women’s sports, stating, “This summer, I had the privilege of serving as Chairman of the Georgia Senate Special Committee on the Protection of Women’s Sports. As the father of three daughters, I take this issue to heart. Female athletes have worked tirelessly to earn their place in competition, and they deserve a level playing field.” He expressed confidence that the bill would progress swiftly through the General Assembly.

Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones also voiced support for SB 1, saying, “Biological men do not belong in women’s sports, period. This is common sense to everyone but the most radical liberals in Georgia.” He reaffirmed his dedication to ensuring equal opportunities for female athletes.

The bill seeks to ensure equal athletic opportunities and safety across all levels by prohibiting males from competing on female-designated teams and vice versa.
