At the close of 2025, Senator Larry Walker reflected on the challenges and achievements faced by Georgia families over the past year. He noted that while many in Washington are criticized for excessive spending and leadership issues, state leaders in Georgia are focused on taking a different approach.
Walker emphasized his commitment to representing Middle Georgia, highlighting that his responsibilities extend beyond legislative duties to include direct conversations with constituents. “While debating legislation and casting votes are part of the job, the real work happens in the conversations at kitchen tables, local businesses, farm shops and church pews. This year, you’ve told me what’s working, what’s not and what you expect from your state leaders,” Walker stated.
He outlined several policy areas where Senate Republicans have concentrated their efforts over the last twelve months. These include workforce development, school safety improvements, consumer protection against rising living costs, tax relief measures, and maintaining responsible budgeting practices. Investments were made in education, public safety, and health care alongside reductions in income taxes.
Walker pointed out tangible outcomes from these policies: “Our law enforcement officers and first responders are better equipped to keep our schools secure. Farmers and agribusiness owners have more protection for the tools they rely on to feed our state. Small businesses are getting relief from lawsuit abuse that has driven up insurance premiums. Families are keeping more of their hard-earned money due to our income tax reduction.”
Despite progress made this year, Walker acknowledged ongoing issues such as rural health care challenges, workforce shortages affecting small towns and economies, difficulties with affordable housing for young families, and the need for strategic support for agriculture.
Looking ahead to the next legislative session, Walker reaffirmed his priorities: “My priorities remain in advancing policies that help Georgians thrive, strengthening the industries that drive our state and pushing back against personal agendas that threaten to make life harder for working families.” He stressed fiscal responsibility before considering new programs or spending initiatives.
Walker concluded by expressing gratitude for constituent engagement during the holiday season: “As the Christmas season arrives, I hope you’re able to find time for rest, gratitude, and the people who matter most in your life. I remain deeply thankful for your trust and your willingness to stay engaged in the work happening under the Gold Dome.” He invited residents to contact his office with ideas or requests for assistance.
Senator Larry Walker serves as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Insurance and Labor representing Georgia’s 20th Senate District.
