Six men have been indicted by the May term of the federal Grand Jury in the Southern District of Georgia for various gun-related offenses, including Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Margaret E. “Meg” Heap on May 12.
Those facing federal charges are Jason Booz, 46, and Twain Frails, 36, both of Augusta; Naquan Brinson, 23, Thomas Hilliard, 39, Nathaniel Williams, 46, and Orlando M. Williams, 35—all from Savannah. The indictments include counts such as Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon for five defendants and additional charges against Brinson for Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Receipt of a Firearm by a Person Under Indictment.
“We will prosecute those who illegally possess firearms in the Southern District of Georgia,” Heap said. “We value and commend our law enforcement partners, and we will continue to prioritize removing these dangerous weapons from individuals who are prohibited from possessing them.”
The cases were investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; and the Savannah Police Department. Prosecution is being handled by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Karl I. Knoche, Matthew Breedon, Henry W. Syms Jr., and Bradley R. Thompson.
Criminal indictments contain only charges; defendants are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Georgia promotes community safety through programs such as Project Safe Neighborhoods and operates offices in Savannah with a branch in Augusta; it functions under the United States Department of Justice with about 70 attorneys and staff members while prosecuting federal crimes and managing civil litigation for the United States, according to its official website.
