Crews will close the Slygo Road bridge over Interstate 24 in Dade County starting Monday, February 23, as part of a bridge replacement project. The closure is expected to last up to nine months, with a detour route in place for motorists.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), weather permitting, the work will require the full closure of the Slygo Road bridge. “A detour will be utilized during the closure, which is expected to last up to nine months. Motorists should use caution in the work zone and watch for crews that could be working near the roadway,” GDOT stated.

The designated detour directs drivers south on Slygo Road, then left onto Morganville Ridge Road. From there, motorists are instructed to travel east to State Route 58 and head north before turning west onto State Route 299 and returning to Slygo Road.

Motorists are advised that delays are likely and are encouraged to drive carefully through construction zones. The department recommends checking real-time traffic conditions before traveling by calling 511, visiting 511ga.org, or using the Georgia 511 app.

GDOT also noted that maintenance and construction teams continue their essential work while following health agency guidelines for sanitary practices due to ongoing concerns about coronavirus transmission among state departments of transportation across the country.
