Motorists in southeast Georgia are being advised to prepare for possible delays due to ongoing road work from February 14 through February 20. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is urging drivers to be cautious, reduce speed, and remain alert when traveling through active work zones.
The GDOT recommends that travelers check real-time updates on construction status and traffic conditions before heading out. Information can be accessed by calling 511, visiting the official website at https://511ga.org/, or using the Georgia 511 mobile app.
According to the department, “Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways. We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs. And we help local governments maintain their roads. Georgia DOT and its nearly 4,000 employees are committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability and mobility. The Department’s vision is to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
The GDOT plays a significant role in managing not only highways but also infrastructure such as bridges and waterways. The agency also supports public transit systems and assists local governments with road maintenance throughout the state.
