The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing and upcoming road work across Southeast Georgia for the week of August 16 through August 22, 2025. The department urges motorists to reduce speed, remain alert in work zones, and watch for workers as construction and maintenance projects continue.
According to GDOT, all scheduled work is subject to change based on weather or other factors. Projects will affect several interstates including I-95, I-16, and I-516, with various lane closures planned both during the day and overnight hours.
On Interstate 95, motorists can expect overnight lane closures at the St. Marys River Bridge near the Florida state line in Camden County due to bridge repairs coordinated with FDOT. In Bryan County at Exit 87/US 17, a traffic shift will reduce lanes from August 15–18 for bridge maintenance. Additional single-lane closures are scheduled in Chatham County between mileposts 90–91 for sign installation and concrete work. Nightly lane closures for resurfacing are also set between Jones Road Overpass and the railroad bridge south of Exit 87 in Liberty and Bryan counties.
Further north along I-95 in Glynn County (mileposts 27–36), resurfacing will result in nightly lane closures from August 17 through January 31, 2026. Maintenance continues through August on sections of I-95 South in McIntosh and Glynn counties.
Interstate 16 will see right-lane closures eastbound between milepost 140 and exit 143 in Bryan County from August 20–21 for sign installation; westbound lanes will close from August 21–22 for similar work. Daily single-lane closures are planned under Chatham Parkway Bridge as crews address corrective items ahead of a polymer overlay project extending into late August.
I-516 in Chatham County is undergoing bridge maintenance with continuous nightly lane closures between Louisville Road and Tremont Road until the end of August. Concrete pavement repair is also underway along this corridor.
Several bridges across Southeast Georgia remain closed or restricted due to replacement or rehabilitation projects. Notably, Lewis Frasier Road at Peacock Creek in Liberty County is closed for a bridge replacement with a signed detour via US 17 and US 84 expected to last up to five months.
Other significant projects include resurfacing on state routes such as SR30 (Bonnybridge Rd.) in Chatham County, SR117 in Telfair County, SR122 in Clinch County, SR73/US301 in Bulloch County—each involving daily or nightly lane restrictions through late summer or fall.
Local roads are also affected by city-led projects like East Main Street closure near its intersection with US80/SR26 by the City of Statesboro until late August for culvert replacement.
GDOT advises drivers to anticipate delays throughout these areas: “Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers.”
For real-time updates on traffic conditions or project status before traveling, GDOT recommends calling their information line at “511,” visiting https://511ga.org/, or using the Georgia 511 app.
