The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced ongoing road construction and maintenance projects across Southeast Georgia for the week of August 2 through August 8, 2025. The agency advises motorists to expect traffic interruptions on major interstates and state routes due to various works including bridge repairs, resurfacing, and roadway maintenance.
Weather or other unforeseen factors may affect project schedules. GDOT urges drivers to slow down in work zones, remain alert, and watch for workers.
On Interstate 95, several counties will see overnight lane closures for activities such as bridge repairs at the St. Marys River Bridge near the Florida state line in Camden County and concrete work for sign improvements between Bryan and Chatham counties. Other areas affected include McIntosh, Glynn, Liberty, and Bryan counties with scheduled maintenance continuing through August 2025.
Interstate 16 will have daily single lane closures under the Chatham Parkway Bridge in Chatham County as crews address corrective items and prepare for a polymer overlay from July 25 through August 31. Nightly lane closures are also planned in Candler County for concrete repairs.
Bridge maintenance is set on Interstate 516 in Chatham County with continuous nightly lane closures from May through August.
Several bridges and roads will be closed or detoured for replacement or rehabilitation projects. Notable closures include Lewis Frasier Road at Peacock Creek in Liberty County for a bridge replacement requiring a detour via US 17 and US 84. In Long County, westbound traffic on US 84/SR 38 at Doctors Creek will be rerouted starting August 8 using an on-site median crossover detour.
Resurfacing operations are scheduled throughout multiple counties including Screven, Montgomery, Wayne, Telfair, Clinch, Bulloch, and others. Daily or nightly lane closures are expected depending on location.
Other projects involve road widening along SR 25/Burnsed Blvd in Chatham County; utilities work and paving operations on US 80/SR 26/Ogeechee Rd; passing lane construction on SR 32 in Bacon/Coffee Counties; freight route reconstruction on SR 38/119 in Liberty & Long Counties; as well as ongoing work related to the US1 Bypass Project in Toombs County which includes new all-way stop intersections until completion.
Motorists are advised: “All work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are cautioned to reduce their speed while traveling through work zones, pay attention and watch for workers.”
