Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns has called on Georgians to pray for two Tifton police officers who were injured in a shooting. He also expressed gratitude to law enforcement for their role in protecting communities across the state.
“Dayle and I ask our fellow Georgians to join us in lifting these two brave officers up in prayer,” said Jon Guerry Burns, State Representative from Georgia. “We’re thankful for each of the law enforcement officers across the state. That put themselves in harms way to keep our families and communities safe each day.”
The statement from Speaker Burns comes after reports of the incident involving the Tifton officers. Georgia officials have since shown solidarity and appreciation for law enforcement as investigations continue.
According to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, more than 300 police officers were shot in the line of duty nationwide in 2025, highlighting ongoing risks faced by first responders.
Data from Georgia’s Department of Public Safety indicates a steady increase in reported assaults on law enforcement officers over recent years. This trend has led to renewed efforts to enhance officer safety training and equipment.
Burns, a Republican legislator representing House District 159, serves as the Speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives. Known for his dedication to public safety, agriculture, and conservative governance, he is a lifelong resident of Georgia.
