House Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) has announced the policy agenda for the Georgia House of Representatives for the 2026 legislative session. The plan centers on making life more affordable and improving quality of life for families across Georgia.
The new agenda continues initiatives from last year, including tax cuts, lower insurance premiums, cost-saving measures, education efforts, and healthcare investments. According to Burns, these priorities reflect feedback from constituents across the state.
“This year, the House is not taking our eyes off of what Georgians across the state have told us matters most, and we’re laser-focused on making life more affordable for our fellow Georgians,” said Speaker Jon Burns. “From property taxes and housing costs to healthcare and education, the House is committed to championing commonsense solutions that keep more money in the pockets of hardworking Georgians and create a better, brighter future for each of our neighbors across the state.”
Key elements of the 2026 agenda include property tax reform through a plan to eliminate homestead property tax statewide. The House also intends to address housing affordability by reducing regulatory barriers that increase costs.
Healthcare access remains a focus with efforts to expand medical education opportunities and grow Georgia’s healthcare workforce. In education, plans call for placing a literacy coach in every elementary school and increasing resources for early childhood education.
Burns has served as a Republican member of Georgia’s State House since 2005, representing District 159 after succeeding Ray Holland.
Additional details about the policy agenda will be released during the legislative session.
