Lane closures on State Route 20 and Old Industrial Blvd will occur overnight as part of a road-widening project. The closures are necessary for storm pipe installation related to the project’s Stage 1 construction phase.
Starting tonight and continuing through May 31, traffic will be rerouted from 9 pm to 6 am via Phillips Drive. During these hours, State Route 20 and Old Industrial Blvd will be inaccessible to all traffic.
Motorists are advised to find alternate routes and anticipate delays. “Drivers should seek alternate routes and expect delays,” stated an advisory from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). The advisory also recommends that motorists “exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones.”
For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, drivers can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or use the Georgia 511 app.
The GDOT is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining Georgia’s state and federal highways. The department also supports bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike, and pedestrian programs while assisting local governments with road maintenance. With nearly 4,000 employees dedicated to innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility in transportation systems, GDOT aims to enhance Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
