U.S. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene blamed Democrats for multiple incidents of violence across the country.
In her speech during the House debate to impeach President Donald Trump, Greene highlighted the president's rallies and the Democrats' support for aggressions.
Greene stated that Trump "has held over 600 rallies in the last 4 years and none of them included assaulting police, destroying businesses, or burning down cities. Democrats have spent all this time endorsing and enabling violent riots that left billions in property damage, and 47 dead across the United States."
"Democrats are on record supporting violence when it serves their cause," Greene added.
The House debate on Trump’s impeachment “for high crimes and misdemeanors” came a week after a violent mob attacked the Capitol.
If impeached, the president may be prevented from running in the 2024 election.
The Verify Team cited Article I, Section III, U.S. Constitution:
“Judgement in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States.”
Robert Peck, a legal expert from the Center For Constitutional Litigation confirmed that being disqualified from running again for an office is not automatic. "If that’s added to the terms of the impeachment and conviction, then he is ineligible,” Peck told WUSA 9.
