Document

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp kicked off the grand opening of a new Amazon facility in Columbia County last week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Kemp tweeted Tuesday, sharing an article by WRDW at the opening of the new center.

“This @Amazon facility in Columbia County will bring good-paying jobs and opportunity to the entire CSRA. Thanks for having @GAFirstLady and me!” Kemp wrote in his tweet.

The new facility will create at least 1,000 jobs in Columbia County, according to Augusta CEO. Positions will be full time, starting at $15.50 per hour with benefits. Interested applicants may apply on the company’s website. WRDW reports there are currently 14 positions available spanning from HR to maintenance and IT.

The 450,000-square-foot fulfillment center, in Appling, houses hundreds of robots and 9 miles of conveyor belts, according to WRDW. Amazon is currently working on ways to establish delivery stations so customers can place an order and have it delivered on the same day if they live near an Amazon center.

Census data shows the county grew by approximately 31,000 people in the last decade with more growth expected to come, WRDW states.
