Piedmont Fayette Helps New Parents Prepare

398

Piedmont Newnan Hospital recently issued the following announcement.

Approximately 2,500 babies are born each year at Piedmont Fayette Hospital and some of their parents are first-timers. In order to ease any concerns about being new to parenthood or caring for a baby, Piedmont Fayette’s Family Care Center offers classes each month to get the entire family ready for the experience.

A popular class for new mothers is Breastfeeding Basics, which can help expectant mothers get off to a good start with breastfeeding. Topics include the benefits of breastfeeding for baby and Mom and proper latch and positioning. There will also be information about breast pumps, returning to work and common breastfeeding challenges. This class is offered once a month for a fee of $10 per couple. Class times are 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

First-time parents will also want to check out Baby Basics. This class provides information and guidance related to the care of a newborn, including newborn appearance, diapering, burping, feeding, immunization, signs of illness and more. There will also be Infant CPR education, but it is not a certification class. The fee for the class is $10 a couple and class times are 1 to 3:30 p.m.

Breastfeeding Basics and Baby Basics will be offered on Saturdays: March 5, Apr. 9, May 14, June 11, July 9, Aug. 20, Sept. 10, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, and Dec. 17. The classes will take place in Conference Room C on the third floor of the 1279 Building on the Piedmont Fayette campus.
