Georgia coach Kirby Smart recently announced that veteran coach Stacy Searels is set to return to the NCAA defending champs as offensive line coach.
Searels has been serving as offensive line coach for North Carolina for the past three years, according to the University of Georgia Athletics (UGA) department. Under his guidance, the Tar Heels developed one of the most productive offensive lines in the country, leading the ACC in rushing yards for two consecutive years and producing five1,000-yard rushers nationally for the previous three seasons.
"Welcome back to #DawgNation @SSearels," school officials wrote in a Feb. 28 Twitter post.
Searels played four seasons as a pro before launching his coaching career as an assistant at Auburn, his alma mater, in 1992. The team would go on to post a perfect 11-0 run in 1993. Over his three-decades-long coaching career, Searels has produced 25 NFL offensive linemen, including 11 NFL Draft picks.
As a pro, Searels was a fourth-round draft pick for the San Diego in 1988, playing for the Chargers for two years before moving to the Miami Dolphins in 1990. He would go on to play for the New York/New Jersey Knights of the World League of American Football in 1991 before taking up a career in coaching.
A three-year starter on the offensive line at Auburn, Searels earned first-team All-America honors from both the Associated Press and Football News as a senior in 1987.
