State Representative Mike Cheokas (R-Americus), Chairman of the House Committee on Small Business Development, has been appointed by Speaker Jon Burns (R-Newington) to serve on the House Study Committee on Assessing the Semester and Quarter Systems at USG and TCSG Institutions.

“Prioritizing Georgia’s education sector is essential for maintaining a robust workforce and a thriving economy. I am eager to work alongside my colleagues on this study committee to thoroughly examine our state’s educational systems,” said Chairman Cheokas. “I want to extend my gratitude to Speaker Burns for selecting me to serve on this important study committee. Together, we will strive to ensure that our educational systems are optimized for student achievement and workforce readiness, ultimately contributing to the long-term prosperity and growth of Georgia.”

The House Study Committee on Assessing the Semester and Quarter Systems at USG and TCSG Institutions was created following the adoption of House Resolution 1384 during the 2024 legislative session. This committee will evaluate the respective benefits and drawbacks of the semester and quarter systems for USG and TCSG institutions, with the possibility of proposing legislation based on their findings in the upcoming legislative session.

Speaker Burns also appointed State Representatives Ginny Ehrhart (R-Marietta), Shaw Blackmon (R-Bonaire), Chuck Martin (R-Alpharetta), and Stacey Evans (D-Atlanta) as members of this study committee.
