ATLANTA – Speaker of the House Jon Burns (R-Newington) announced the members of two additional House study committees today. These committees were established by legislation adopted during the 2024 session of the Georgia General Assembly.
The House Study Committee on Private Water Systems will be chaired by Rep. Trey Rhodes (R-Greensboro). Other members include Rep. Robert Dickey (R-Musella), Rep. Lynn Smith (R-Newnan), Rep. Debbie Buckner (D-Junction City), Rep. Bill Hitchens (R-Rincon), Rep. Beth Camp (R-Concord), and Rep. Jason Ridley (R-Chatsworth). Mr. Jason Shaw, Public Service Commissioner, will serve as the Non-Legislative Member.
This committee was created by House Resolution 1498 and will evaluate all aspects of private water systems operations in Georgia, potentially making recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.
The House Study Committee on Navigable Streams and Related Matters will be chaired by Rep. Lynn Smith (R-Newnan). The committee includes Rep. Stan Gunter (R-Blairsville), Rep. Al Williams (D-Midway), Rep. John Corbett (R-Lake Park), Rep. Johnny Chastain (R-Blue Ridge), and Rep. James Burchett (R-Waycross). Mr. Jud Turner will serve as the Non-Legislative Member.
Created by House Resolution 1554, this committee will examine navigable streams in Georgia, addressing issues surrounding their ownership, private and public rights of use, and other related matters with potential recommendations for proposed legislation ahead of the 2025 legislative session.
