Senator Larry Walker III of Perry announced that Dodge County-Eastman Development Authority has secured a $2 million grant from Governor Brian Kemp’s Rural Site Development Initiative. This funding will support essential water and sewer infrastructure improvements at the Eastman Aerospace Park, aimed at boosting industrial development in the area.
Senator Walker expressed his enthusiasm for the grant, stating, “As a lifelong advocate for rural development, I’m thrilled to see Dodge County receive this significant investment through the Rural Site Development Initiative.” He highlighted the potential of leveraging local assets like the Heart of Georgia Regional Airport and Middle Georgia State University’s School of Aviation to attract industries such as aerospace and defense. Walker added that these improvements would create jobs and drive innovation in the local economy.
The Eastman Aerospace Park is recognized as a "GRAD Select" certified site, strategically positioned to draw businesses in high-demand sectors. Its proximity to vital resources makes it appealing for industries requiring advanced infrastructure and access to skilled labor. The total project cost is expected to exceed $2.2 million, with contributions from the Dodge County-Eastman Development Authority.
Walker also praised Governor Kemp, the Georgia General Assembly, and the OneGeorgia Authority for their dedication to rural economic development. “Through strategic initiatives like this, Georgia remains the No. 1 state for business,” said Walker.
The Rural Site Development Initiative is managed by both the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the Georgia Department of Economic Development. It aims to assist communities in developing new industrial sites to sustain Georgia's competitive edge in economic growth.
Senator Larry Walker III holds several positions within state committees and represents Senate District 20, which includes multiple counties across Georgia.
