The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will continue essential road work throughout Southeast Georgia from Saturday, March 1 to Friday, March 7. The ongoing construction and maintenance projects may result in traffic interruptions across several interstates and counties.

Motorists are advised to reduce speed, remain attentive, and watch for workers while traveling through work zones. GDOT warns that all scheduled work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.

Interstate 95 will see overnight lane closures at the St. Marys River Bridge in Camden County, with single lane closures from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., and double lane closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Northbound and southbound lanes between mileposts 90-91 in Chatham County will have nightly single lane closures for concrete footer pouring for signs until April 29, 2025.

On Interstate 16, structural repairs and deck replacement under the Chatham Parkway Bridge will cause nightly single left lane closures from March 1 to April 1, while similar work over the bridge will involve temporary traffic stoppages and flagging operations during the same period.

Bridge and road closures include Antioch Church Road over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County for bridge replacement until August 2025, and Birdford Lake Road in Tattnall County closed for storm damage repairs until April 1, 2025.

Resurfacing activities on SR38/US84 and Old Sunbury Road in Liberty County will lead to daily/nightly lane closures as well as on SR169 between Wayne/Appling Counties with temporary traffic stoppages expected until August 31, 2025.

For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, motorists can call "511," visit "511ga.org," or download the "Georgia 511 app." The Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs, and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways with nearly "4,000 employees committed to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability," said GDOT officials.
