The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) and Gwinnett County have outlined 16 possible transportation projects aimed at improving mobility along the I-85 corridor. This corridor stretches between I-285 and I-985. Following comprehensive technical studies and feedback from stakeholders and travelers, Georgia DOT and Gwinnett County are set to present information on these projects at upcoming events.

The potential projects are intended to enhance safety, improve vehicle mobility, support commercial travel, evaluate multimodal options, and bolster Georgia’s economy along the I-85 corridor. The public can attend events hosted by Georgia DOT and Gwinnett County to review these projects, engage with project team members, and provide feedback. Meetings are scheduled for April 30 at George Pierce Park in Suwanee, May 5 at Lucky Shoals Park in Norcross, and May 14 at Shorty Howell Park in Duluth. Further details can be found at 85Study.com, where online participation through a short survey is also available.

The study area spans roughly 18 miles, mainly within Gwinnett County and partly in DeKalb County. The goal is to develop solutions that enhance safety, reduce congestion, and improve traffic operations for over 300,000 daily users of the corridor.

Proposed improvements include upgrades to the existing express lane (Peach Pass) system, freeway and interchange enhancements for non-tolled lanes, betterments to arterials crossing I-85, new local roadway connections, and multimodal improvements for transit, bicycle, and pedestrian traffic.
