The Decatur County School District reported on May 7 that students recently attended a live performance by As You Were, a rock band from the United States Army Field Band, inside the Performing Arts Center during the school day.

While many associate the Performing Arts Center with evening events and ceremonies, district officials say it also serves as a space for unique educational experiences. The recent concert offered students an opportunity to engage with professional musicians and learn about careers in music and military service.

As You Were is part of the United States Army Field Band and travels nationwide performing modern rock music. Their shows include popular songs, patriotic themes, and personal stories from service members. According to district information, “the group transformed the Performing Arts Center into a full-scale rock concert experience complete with powerful vocals, incredible musicianship, dynamic lighting, and an energy that had students fully engaged from the first song to the last.”

The band’s name refers to a military phrase meaning to resume previous activities after an interruption. The performance was designed not only as entertainment but also as inspiration for students.

District officials said these types of events demonstrate how school facilities can be used for more than traditional functions such as rehearsals or graduations. “Moments like these are another reminder that our PAC is more than a venue — it’s a place where students can learn, connect, and be inspired in ways they may never expect during a regular school day,” according to information released by the district.
