The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced a three-day closure of State Route 86 in the Ohoopee Community, Toombs County, to allow for railroad crossing improvements requested by Georgia Central Railway. The closure will begin at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, September 2, and is expected to last until 5 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, weather permitting.
A contractor working for Georgia Central Railway will manage the road closure and set up a detour route during this period. Traffic on SR 86 will be redirected via SR 292, US 1, and US 280. Residents in the area will have access up to the work zone at the railroad crossing.
Detour instructions are as follows: Eastbound traffic on SR-86 will turn right onto SR-292, travel west for over six miles, then left onto US 1/SR 4 for a short distance before turning left again onto US 280/SR-30 and continuing east for nearly nine miles where the detour ends. Westbound traffic will follow the reverse route.
Drivers are advised to check current travel conditions before starting their trip by calling Georgia’s free 511 service or visiting www.511ga.org for real-time updates about traffic conditions and incidents statewide.
