Governor Brian P. Kemp has announced the groundbreaking of a new $60 million cold storage facility by Ti Cold and Karis Cold in Darien, McIntosh County. The facility, built for PermaCold Logistics, will support 50 jobs upon completion of its first phase.

“Today’s announcement is the largest known economic development win for McIntosh County, marking another success for rural Georgia,” stated Governor Kemp. “Companies like Ti Cold, Karis Cold, and PermaCold Logistics…support logistics industry jobs in every corner of the state.”

Ti Cold specializes in cold storage construction and development services. Sam Tippmann, Founder and CEO of Ti Cold, expressed enthusiasm about the project: “We’ve had the privilege of building in Georgia many times over the years…We are truly excited to bring this beautiful facility to your community.”

Located at Tidewater Industrial Park, a GRAD site in Darien, the facility will feature advanced technology with a flexible design maintaining temperatures from 40 degrees to minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit. It will also include environmentally friendly refrigeration systems and structural steel pallet racks for over 30,000 positions.

Chairwoman Kate Pontello Karwacki of the McIntosh County Board of Commissioners commented on the significance: “This groundbreaking marks a transformational moment for McIntosh County…This project not only brings high-quality jobs and economic opportunity but also strengthens the industrial foundation we’ve been working hard to build.”

The project involved collaboration with various partners including the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s Global Commerce team and other regional authorities.

GDEcD Commissioner Pat Wilson highlighted the importance of cold storage: “Cold storage plays a vital role in Georgia’s logistics and supply chain infrastructure…Congratulations to the companies, the City of Darien, and McIntosh County on this exciting new chapter.”
