Tony Crapps has been promoted to Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment at Montgomery State Prison, the Georgia Department of Corrections announced on May 28. The appointment is effective June 1, 2026. Crapps previously served as Lieutenant and Chief of Security at Smith Transitional Center.
As Deputy Warden of Care and Treatment, Crapps will oversee educational programs, health services, library services, counseling programs, recreational services, and mental health services for male offenders at Montgomery State Prison.
“Tony has worked his way up through the ranks while consistently displaying a strong work ethic and exceptional leadership qualities,” said Commissioner Tyrone Oliver. “We are confident he will continue to lead with integrity as he takes on this essential role in overseeing vital programming for the offender population at Montgomery SP.”
Crapps began his career with the Georgia Department of Corrections in 2000 as a Counselor at Telfair State Prison. He was promoted to Sergeant at Rogers State Prison in 2006 before transferring to Georgia State Prison in 2007. In 2010, he was promoted to Lieutenant and later became Chief of Security in 2015. In 2023, he transitioned to Lieutenant/Chief of Security at Smith Transitional Center.
His departmental training includes Basic Correctional Officer Training, Basic Management Training, Mental Health Training, Food Service Management Training, Chief of Security Academy, Crime Scene Preservation Training, SART Training, and Field Training Officer.
