Tracee Ragland has been announced as the new principal of Heritage Elementary School, according to a May 14 statement. Ragland, originally from Chicago, Illinois, has spent her career working to improve educational outcomes in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Her appointment is significant for the school community as she brings years of experience in teaching and leadership roles. Ragland began her education career in 2006 as an elementary teacher in Chicago before moving to Atlanta two years later to teach eighth-grade mathematics.

Ragland continued her professional development by earning a Master’s Degree in Education with a concentration in Curriculum and Instruction and a Reading Endorsement. She transitioned into instructional coaching at the elementary level, leading her department through three consecutive years of mathematics growth. She later obtained an Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership.

In 2018, Ragland joined Fulton County Schools as a Mathematics Coach at Paul D. West Middle School, where she focused on teacher development and high-impact instructional practices. Her dedication led her to earn a Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) endorsement. By 2021, she was promoted to district-level Mathematics Program Specialist, collaborating with superintendents and school leaders on curriculum resources and student achievement initiatives.

From 2022 to 2026, Ragland served as Assistant Principal at Paul D. West Middle School in East Point, Georgia. During this period she led curriculum initiatives and strategic improvement planning that resulted in gains across multiple content areas including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.

Outside work, Ragland enjoys spending time with her family—including her wife and son—and is active within Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., while also being an avid fan of the Chicago Bears and Cubs.

Ragland said she looks forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and the broader community: “Her leadership is grounded in high expectations, strong relationships, and a shared commitment to ensuring every Jaguar thrives academically, socially, and emotionally.”
