The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will continue its ongoing road construction projects across Southeast Georgia from Saturday, May 3 to Friday, May 9, as announced in a recent advisory. The work will include construction and maintenance across several counties and is subject to changes due to weather conditions or other factors.
Motorists traveling through these areas are cautioned to reduce speed, remain attentive, and be mindful of workers present. The advisory lists several key traffic interruptions expected during the specified period, detailing lane and road closures throughout various counties.
Key projects on Interstate 95 include overnight lane closures at the St. Marys River Bridge in both Florida and Georgia, and concrete work for sign improvements from MP 85 to MP 112 through May 10, 2025. Additionally, bridge maintenance and rehabilitation will cause lane closures in Camden County from Laurel Island Pkwy to Hariett Bluff Rd until June 2025.
Interstate 16 is also highlighted with lane closures for bridge repairs under Chatham Parkway, and lane closures from MP 163.5 to 161.5 for structural repairs expected to conclude by May 10, 2025. Daily lane closures for asphalt resurfacing on SR 27 in Telfair County are set to continue through May 31, 2025.
Multiple bridge and road closures with detours are occurring, such as on Antioch Church Rd over Surveyors Creek in Clinch County, scheduled to remain closed until August 2025. In counties including Pierce, Ware, Wayne, Long, and Chatham, bridge rehabilitation and replacement projects are anticipated to cause further traffic adjustments.
Resurfacing projects are underway in Liberty County along SR 38 and Old Sunbury Road, and in Montgomery County on SR 56, with varying expected completion dates.
Motorists are encouraged to stay informed about current work status and traffic conditions via 511, its website, or the Georgia 511 app. GDOT’s ongoing commitment is to provide a safe, sustainable, and innovative transportation system.
