The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced a full closure of access to State Route 316 from Barber Creek Road in Statham as part of the SR 316 at Barber Creek Road project. This closure aims to facilitate the construction of a new bridge, which is part of a larger initiative to enhance safety and traffic efficiency on the SR 316 corridor.
The closure will commence overnight on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at the intersection of SR 316 and Barber Creek Road. The construction process involves deploying large equipment and temporary barrier walls within the median and existing access points, making the closure necessary.
Local authorities have suggested alternative routes for affected drivers. Travelers south of SR 316 are advised to use Hog Mountain Road (SR 53) to Bethlehem Road (SR 211), while those north of SR 316 should take Bethlehem Road (SR 211) to Atlanta Highway (US 78) and return via Barber Creek Road.
The closure is expected to remain for an extended period, continuing through the construction of the bridge, ramps, and roundabouts. The completion of the new bridge is anticipated by the first quarter of 2027.
Georgia DOT has also issued safety reminders, urging drivers to slow down and remain vigilant in work zones due to the presence of construction equipment and personnel. Variable message signs will inform motorists at both ends of the project area.
