Traffic on SR 96 in Twiggs County will shift to a new section on May 12, 2025, as part of the ongoing project PI 322470. The goal is to widen SR 96 into a four-lane divided highway from US 23/US 129 Alt/SR 87 to I-16. This planned traffic shift aims to facilitate the reconstruction of the old two-way section of SR 96 from milepost 8.5 to 9, which will be turned into future westbound-only lanes.
The traffic will be diverted to a newly constructed section of SR 96, which lies south of the existing road, starting just west of the Faulks Landing Road intersection. The new section will support two-way traffic while the previous portion is closed for reconstruction.
Motorists are advised to stay informed about the changes via message boards and warning signs. Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes, expect delays, and exercise caution through the area. Updates will be available on social media (@GDOTWest) and through Georgia’s 511 information services, including the 511 app and website.
