US 84 eastbound traffic at Little McMillian Creek in Jesup, Georgia, is set to shift to a single lane on the newly constructed westbound bridge starting Wednesday, July 9. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that weather permitting, contractors will initiate the shift work on Wednesday morning to facilitate the transition by that afternoon.
To inform drivers about the upcoming changes, message boards will be placed at the location. The speed limit in the work zone will be reduced to 35 mph and must be adhered to by all motorists.
The new traffic configuration aims to maintain continuous traffic flow while allowing for the removal and reconstruction of a new eastbound bridge. This bridge replacement project is valued at $7.9 million and is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
Motorists should anticipate delays and are urged to exercise caution and reduce their speed when traveling through work zones. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, drivers can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.
The GDOT oversees planning, construction, and maintenance of state and federal highways in Georgia. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs,” GDOT stated. “And we help local governments maintain their roads.” With nearly 4,000 employees committed to innovation and safety in transportation systems, GDOT’s vision is “to boost Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.”
