A traffic shift on I-95 South at Exit 87 over US 17 in Richmond Hill is scheduled to begin Tuesday, August 5, as part of a bridge maintenance project conducted by L. C. Whitford Co., Inc. All three lanes will be moved east onto the inside shoulder to allow for continued work on the interchange bridge.
The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has warned motorists to expect significant delays on August 3 and 4 while striping modifications are made in preparation for the shift. There will be double lane closures overnight on August 4 to implement the new traffic pattern. The schedule is dependent on weather conditions.
Overnight Friday, August 15, the traffic configuration will be reduced further to two lanes through the weekend until Monday, August 18, as remaining bridge maintenance activities are completed.
Motorists are reminded that this area is an active work zone with reduced speed limits and increased caution advised. “Message signs, barrels and/or cones will be utilized to alert the public of the upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity to travel lanes,” according to GDOT.
