Traffic shift scheduled for new State Route 85 bridge at Whitewater Creek

Traffic on State Route 85 in Fayette County will be shifted from the temporary bridge over Whitewater Creek to a newly constructed bridge beginning Thursday, December 11, 2025. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced that contractors will carry out the traffic shift starting at 9:00 a.m. on that day.

During the operation, there may be times when crews need to close a lane of traffic around their work zone. Advance warning signs have been posted to notify motorists ahead of time. Drivers are encouraged to stay alert and reduce their speed near workers and equipment.

“GDOT contractors will shift traffic from the temporary bridge over Whitewater Creek onto the newly constructed bridge over Whitewater Creek. The work will be done on Thursday December 11, 2025. There may be times when the crews will need to close a lane of traffic around their work zone. There are advance warning signs to notify motorists in advance of this operation. Drivers are encouraged to drive alert in the work zone and to slow their speeds around the workers and their equipment.”

The schedule for this project is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists should expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce speed while traveling through work zones.
