Twelve students are participating this summer in the Dean Rusk International Law Center’s Global Governance Summer School, according to a May 7 announcement from the University of Georgia School of Law. Eleven of these participants are enrolled in the law school’s Juris Doctor program.
The summer program focuses on comparative environmental law and sustainability, providing students with academic credit as they gain international experience. The initiative is operated in partnership with the Leuven Centre for Global Governance.
Students will take part in site visits to several international organizations and institutions, including NATO, the European Council, the International Court of Justice, and the Permanent Court of Arbitration. They will also visit law firms, non-governmental organizations, international courts, and embassies as part of their studies abroad.
The University of Georgia School of Law offers extensive experiential learning opportunities through 18 clinics and externships while maintaining high graduate employment rates and supporting a diverse student body with strong academic profiles, according to the official website. The school has been ranked No. 22 by U.S. News & World Report and recognized for value by National Jurist; it also maintains robust advocacy programs that have earned national and regional titles. In addition to these achievements, the institution supports legal education through superior teaching practices and community service efforts.
The Alexander Campbell King Law Library at the university provides extensive resources for legal research to support both domestic study and international initiatives such as this summer’s externship program.
