The University of Georgia Extension announced on May 29 that it will host a hands-on workshop focused on home food preservation. The event, titled ‘Soup Starter Workshop,’ will guide participants through the basics of preparing meat and vegetable soup starters using safe, research-based pressure-canning methods. Seating for the workshop is limited.

According to the announcement, attendees will have the opportunity to make their own soup starter during the session while learning about proper canning techniques. The workshop is part of a broader series offered by University of Georgia Extension throughout 2026.

The full class schedule includes sessions on Strawberry Jam on May 20, Pickles on June 17, Salsa on July 9, Soup Starter on August 12, and Apple Pie Filling on September 24. Each class aims to teach participants specific skills related to home food preservation.

Participation in each workshop costs $30. The University of Georgia emphasizes its commitment as an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, Veteran, Disability Institution. Individuals requiring reasonable accommodation or language access services are encouraged to reach out using the contact information provided at least three weeks prior to the program date.

More information about registration and accessibility can be found through University of Georgia Extension’s official channels.
