The Georgia Department of Transportation has announced upcoming lane closures for the US 17/SR 404 Spur Bridge as part of a major maintenance project. According to the department, these closures are essential to provide safe access for performing additional inspections supporting the final design phase of the maintenance project.
The planned closures are scheduled from Monday to Friday, April 7-11. On April 7 and 8, a single, right northbound lane from Louisville Road to Savannah Harbor Parkway will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m daily. On April 9 and 10, a similar closure will take place southbound from Savannah Harbor Parkway to Louisville Road. On April 11, a single lane, either northbound or southbound, will be closed within the same area. Motorists are advised to drive cautiously and be prepared for possible delays.
The maintenance project involves replacing existing cables across the main span of the bridge, alongside updating bridge bearings and joints. The project also aims to enhance ship navigation by shortening the cables, thereby achieving a higher vertical clearance.
