The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has announced lane closures on Interstate 75 (I-75) over the weekend to continue a resurfacing project. The project spans from the I-75/I-285 interchange in Clayton County to SR 54/University Avenue in Fulton County. According to GDOT, resurfacing is necessary to improve the deteriorating condition of the roadway, eliminating holes and cracks, and providing a smoother ride for drivers.

Motorists are advised to consider alternate routes or allow additional travel time during these closures. Weather permitting, the scheduled lane closures will occur between Friday, May 9, and Monday, May 12. Specific details include:

– From 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday: One right lane will be closed on I-75 southbound at the I-75/I-85 interchange and Cleveland Avenue. Similarly, one right lane on I-85 southbound near this interchange will also be closed.

– SR 166/Langford Parkway ramps will see closures with detours provided for affected traffic.

– Two right lanes on I-85 northbound between Cleveland Avenue and the I-75/I-85 interchange will be closed, along with three left lanes on I-75 northbound between Central Avenue and Cleveland Avenue.

Additional resurfacing work is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday until 6 a.m. Saturday and again from 7 p.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday with alternating double right or left lanes closed within project limits.

This $46 million project aims for completion by summer 2025. Lane closures are intended to ensure safety for both workers and drivers.

Motorists should expect delays and exercise caution while traveling through work zones during project hours. For real-time updates on work status and traffic conditions, travelers can call 511, visit 511ga.org, or download the Georgia 511 app.

GDOT is responsible for planning, constructing, and maintaining Georgia’s state and federal highways among other transportation initiatives such as bridge projects and public transit programs.
