Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) contractors are set to implement lane closures on Interstate 20 in Douglas County this weekend as part of an ongoing resurfacing project. The work will take place from east of Liberty Road to east of State Route 5/Bill Arp Road.
Weather permitting, the closures will involve alternating single left or right lanes on I-20 westbound, starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 13, and continuing until 5 a.m. the following mornings through Sunday, June 15. This effort aims to ensure the safety of both drivers and workers during milling, inlay, and resurfacing operations.
The $29 million project is expected to be completed by late fall 2025. GDOT reminds motorists traveling in the area to reduce speeds in the work zone and encourages them to wear seatbelts and avoid distractions while driving. Motorists can plan their routes using real-time information available via Georgia’s 511 services.
“Georgia Department of Transportation plans, constructs and maintains Georgia’s state and federal highways,” said a spokesperson for GDOT. “We’re involved in bridge, waterway, public transit, rail, general aviation, bike and pedestrian programs.”
GDOT emphasizes its commitment to delivering a transportation system focused on innovation, safety, sustainability, and mobility with nearly 4,000 employees working towards enhancing Georgia’s competitiveness through leadership in transportation.
