Athens Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on June 17.
Elwood & Goetz Wealth Advisory Group announced today Michelle Kruger, Ph.D., CFP®, has joined the fee-only firm’s advisory team as a financial planner.
In her role, Kruger will develop and optimize evidence-based, comprehensive, and personalized financial plans and investment strategies for E&G’s clients. The independent wealth management firm serves more than 400 families and businesses in over 35 states.
“When searching for a financial planning firm, people want to know their advisory team is educated, experienced, and responsive,” Elwood & Goetz Founding Partner and CEO Lindsay Elwood said. “With a varied background as both a university professor and Certified Financial Planner®, Dr. Michelle Kruger strengthens our firm in all of those key areas.”

Prior to joining E&G, Dr. Kruger worked as an assistant professor of finance at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and graduate instructor at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. While pursuing her Ph.D., she previously worked as a financial planning analyst at Elwood & Goetz from 2015 to 2017.

Kruger earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance and Ph.D. in Financial Planning from the University of Georgia. Her research articles on financial satisfaction, financial management, risk tolerance, and wealth building behaviors have been published in well-known academic journals, including “Journal of Financial Planning,” “Journal of Financial Therapy,” and “Financial Services Review.”
Kruger is based in Elwood & Goetz’s Athens, Georgia, office, and is the firm’s ninth full-time hire since January 2020.
