Governor Kemp announces multiple judicial appointments across Georgia

Governor Brian P. Kemp has announced several judicial appointments, filling vacancies across various courts in Georgia. Ralph W. Powell will join the Superior Court of the Tifton Judicial Circuit, a position made available by HB 906. Amy E. Smith is appointed to the Superior Court of the Houston Judicial Circuit, succeeding a vacancy from HB 992. Sarah Stimac Japour takes on the role of District Attorney for the newly established West Georgia Judicial Circuit under SB 424. Vasco "Terry" McRae fills a vacancy in the Rockdale State Court following Judge Clarence Cuthpert's resignation.

Ralph W. Powell brings over three decades of legal experience to his new role, having served as State Court Judge of Worth County and Municipal Court Judge for Poulan and Warwick cities. He also practices law at Wilmot & Powell, LLC, focusing on real estate and estate planning.

Amy E. Smith steps into her new position with extensive prosecutorial experience, previously serving as Solicitor General of Houston County since her appointment by Governor Nathan Deal in 2011. Her career includes handling a wide range of cases from serious felonies to traffic violations.

Sarah Stimac Japour transitions from her role as Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney in the Tallapoosa Judicial Circuit to become District Attorney for West Georgia Judicial Circuit. She has dedicated two decades to prosecuting complex criminal cases and advocating for victims' rights.

Vasco “Terry” McRae moves to Rockdale State Court after serving as an assistant solicitor general in Gwinnett County and having a distinguished military career in the U.S. Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal.

These appointments reflect Governor Kemp's commitment to strengthening Georgia's judicial system with experienced legal professionals.
