Henry County Officer Paramhans Desai died of his wounds Nov. 8 after being shot the week before as he attempted to make an arrest.
Desai, 38, was shot while responding to a domestic dispute on Nov. 4, NBC News reported.
"The @HenryCoPolice family, the local community, and Officer Desai's loved ones lost a hero last night. Please join our family and all Georgians in praying for them today. Matthew 5:4," tweeted Gov. Brian P. Kemp.
The department said that Desai's family members were with him when he passed away, according to WSB-TV.
Henry County police identified the suspect who shot Desai as 22-year-old Jordan Jackson, WSB-TV reported. The reward for his capture was increased from $30,000 to $60,000, as per a Henry County Sheriff’s Office’s announcement on Nov. 9.
"We are getting some information," Henry County Police Chief Mark Amerman said, according to Fox News. "I’m hoping with another $30,000 on top of it, that will help motivate some people to do what needs to be done."
The sheriff’s office also said that Jackson was already a wanted criminal for aggravated assault of a police officer. With Desai’s death, his charges will be upgraded to murder.
Desai was a veteran officer who also worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections and DeKalb County Police, according to WSB-TV. He has been with the Henry County Police Department since 2020.
Fox News said that Desai left behind his wife and two young children.
He "continues to serve, even in his passing, by donating multiple organs which will save numerous lives," according to the department’s Facebook post. "Please continue to keep Officer Desai’s family in your thoughts and prayers through this terrible tragedy. Funeral arrangements will be released at a later date."
