A former aide to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, from when he was a city councilman, was arrested for an incident in 2020 where he allegedly threatened to shoot his ex-wife’s boyfriend with an assault rifle for disciplining their child.

According to a report by Fox 5, Ali Amin Carter, 42, was arrested recently by Atlanta Police while on an American Airlines jet at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The arrest was on a warrant for what was described as “terroristic threats.” The incident took place in September 2020 and, according to the Villa Rica Police Department, a recorded phone call captured Carter threatening to shoot his wife’s boyfriend with an AR-15 if he touched the child again. Carter’s ex-wife informed police of the incident.

“The incident in question is based on a warrant from Douglas County and Mayor Dickens has been made aware of the alleged incident," a spokesperson for Dickens said. "While Mr. Carter previously worked for Councilmember Dickens, he is not part of the mayor’s administration and is no longer an employee of the City of Atlanta."

Police released body cam footage of Carter’s arrest that shows police asking passengers who Carter was. Carter raised his hand and stood up when asked by police. When told he was under arrest, Carter asked police if they could do it at the front of the plane, but an officer said he needed to cuff him there. Carter complied with the officer.

When they exited the plane, officers told him he had a warrant for his arrest. Carter replied with, “Do you know who I am? Do you know my job?”

The officer said it didn’t matter, that he still had a warrant for his arrest. Carter said that it did matter and then said, “I am the chief of staff for Andre Dickens.” He then said that officers should call the mayor and repeated that he was chief of staff for the mayor. Carter also said, “She’s crazy” and “This is ex-wife bull****.”
