The Cheney Street Lodge caught fire Jan. 4 | Google Streets
A fire that broke out at an East Point rooming house and displaced 14 residents is under investigation by authorities.
The fire erupted Jan. 4 at approximately 3:30 a.m. at a rooming house on the 2500 block of Cheney Street, according to Fox 5 Atlanta.
Authorities said crews were still working to put the remnants of the fire out before dawn.
Fox 5 reported that 14 residents evacuated the building with no one in the complex needing medical attention.
The Red Cross is aware of the situation and is ready to provide assistance as investigators examine the scene in order to determine what caused the fire, according to Fox News.
Flames from the fire could be viewed through the roof as firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours with 17 firefighters from different agencies, according to 11 Alive
According to East Point Fire Department, the department serves roughly 13.5 square miles where there is a population of nearly 35,000 residents.
