The Wesleyan College Confucius Institute recently issued the following announcement.
Having assessed the overall academic quality of more than 1,600 online programs, U.S. News ranks Wesleyan’s Online Bachelor’s in Business Program 75th in the nation and their Online Bachelor’s Programs overall 271st best in the nation. Wesleyan’s ranks are particularly impressive considering the College introduced online programs only two years ago to include business, accounting, and applied psychology. Wesleyan’s trademark small-class-sizes are taught mostly by full-time faculty and feature synchronous collaboration with instructors and classmates.
According to U.S. News, the vast majority of students enrolled in online degree programs have earned at least some college credit. Rather than first-time college students, they are more likely to be working professionals in their 20s to 40s looking to advance in or change their careers. Consequently, the factors U.S. News selected to make comparisons between programs did not include measures only applicable to teenage applicants like high school grades and standardized test scores. Instead, they chose factors that weigh how these programs are being delivered and their effectiveness at awarding affordable degrees in a reasonable amount of time. Factors in the rankings include student engagement, services and technologies available to students, faculty credentials and training, as well as expert opinion on the academic quality of programs. Earning a bachelor's degree – in person or online – can open doors to employment opportunities and career goals. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the employment rate among 25- to 34-year-olds in the U.S. with a bachelor's degree or higher was at 86% in 2020. Compare that with the 69% employment rate for those with only a high school diploma.
U.S. News recently ranked Wesleyan College 149th in National Liberal Arts Colleges whose focus is almost exclusively on undergraduate education and award at least 50% of their degrees in the arts and sciences, and 120th in Top Performers in Social Mobility. Social mobility “evaluates which schools best serve underrepresented students and analyzes enrollment and graduation rates of low-income students with Pell Grants as a proxy.”
