Gubernatorial candidate David Perdue (R-GA) was recently joined on the campaign by Donald Trump Jr. in hopes of energizing the state’s Trump base.
FOX 5 Atlanta reported on Trump Jr.'s appearance, sharing news of the rally and highlighting remarks made by him. Among these comments, Perdue said the reason he got into the race was that he could not see how his opponent, current Gov. Brian Kemp could get Trump supporters to back him in the general election.
“We need people to understand that my father is supporting David Perdue," Trump Jr. said at a rally for Perdue. "They love weak republicans. Right? They’re useful idiots. Right, you see they love Brian Kemp because they know when it actually matters, Brian Kemp won’t fight."
A FOX 5 and InsiderAdvantage poll recently found Perdue trailing Kemp by nine points.
According to the report, Kemp recently boasted nearly $13 million in his campaign warchest, while Perdue reported just $900,000. With Trump Jr. and former President Donald Trump endorsing Perdue, the hope of his campaign is to energize the Trump base against incumbent Kemp, whom they criticized for not doing enough to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Trump is also slated to hold a fundraiser for Perdue at Mar-a-Lago next Wednesday.
