City of Milton recently issued the following announcement.
Milton citizens have the final say in naming one of the City’s signature properties – the 137-acre combination passive preserve and active park known (for now) as the former Milton Country Club.

This one-question survey is the final stage in a weeks-long engagement to name the property at 1785 Dinsmore Road. Citizens shared 211 names before Mayor Peyton Jamison and City Council members narrowed the options to five finalists. Those contenders are:
- Milton Acres: Parks and Rec
- Milton Central Park and Preserve
- Milton City Park and Preserve
- Milton Meadows
- Milton Valley Park
The announcement will be the latest milestone for a property that’s been a City focus for the last four years.
In 2018, the City utilized voter-approved greenspace bond funds for the first time to buy 130 acres of a one-time golf course at 1785 Dinsmore Road. As required by the greenspace bond, this land could only be for “passive” use – meaning conservation and trails were OK, but not new structures, courts, fields, and the like for sports programs. Seven adjacent acres that included the one-time club’s tennis courts, pool, parking lot, and clubhouse were purchased for potential “active” use for Parks and Recreation activities.
Milton officials and citizens soon embarked on reimaging how the former golf course and club could be transformed into a civic treasure for all to enjoy. This initiative led to the Milton City Council’s adoption, in August 2019, of a Master Plan for the property. The Milton Tennis Center and City Pool came online first. The transformation of the clubhouse into a vibrant, useful, distinctly Milton recreation and community center took more time. So, too, did efforts to turn the once manicured golf course into a natural preserve with meadows, woods and trails.
