Terry Schilling, the president of the American Principles Project, expressed a lack of surprise at a recent poll that revealed nearly four out of five Georgia voters found it "unfair" for biological males to participate in female sports. Schilling accused President Joe Biden and Democrats of dismissing this widely held view in favor of imposing gender ideology.
Schilling's remarks on the issue were clear-cut. "It's not too surprising to see a poll showing these results, in fact, it's become rather mundane," he stated. He further questioned, "Of course most people oppose biological males competing in women's sports, why would we bother having women's sports otherwise?" The president of the American Principles Project went on to criticize what he sees as radical leftism from Joe Biden and his party: "Unfortunately, radical leftists like Joe Biden have rejected this common sense and are instead trying to force their ideology on the rest of the country." Schilling emphasized the importance of the upcoming election in light of these issues: "This is one of the main reasons this year's election is so important, and Americans must take this opportunity to push back."
The poll that Schilling referred to revealed that 78 percent of Georgia voters agree it is "unfair" for biological males to compete in female sports at high schools and colleges. Even among younger Georgia voters aged between 18 and 34 years old, 69 percent said boys competing with girls was "unfair." The North Star Opinion Research conducted this poll for the League of American Workers (LAW).
In April 2023, President Biden expressed his opposition to H.R. 734 or the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. According to a report from The Hill, he pledged to veto this measure if it reached his desk. This bill sought to amend Title IX by defining sex as being "based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth".
As reported by The Hill, Governor Brian Kemp (R-Ga.) signed the "Protect Students First Act" into law in 2022. This act required student athletes to compete on school sports teams that corresponded with their biological sex. Kemp stated, "As the parents of three daughters, Marty and I want every young girl in this state to have every opportunity to succeed in the sport they love."
According to ESPN, laws currently exist in 23 states that limit biological males from competing in female sports. However, these laws differ from one state to another.
The American Principles Project is a pro-family group founded over a decade ago. It advocates for and politically engages on issues such as parental rights.
