State Representative Mesha Mainor (R-Atlanta) is set to host a Fulton County sheriff's debate on May 9, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at Lindsay Street Baptist Church in Atlanta. The event aims to foster a candid conversation with the candidates and will include a question-and-answer session from the audience.
Rep. Mainor emphasizes the importance of this dialogue, stating, “It will be a real conversation with the candidates one-on-one, followed by Q&A from the audience. The conversation is so important. There is a forgotten constituency of incarcerated men and women who need each of us to be a voice for them.”
The event will be co-moderated by Rep. Mainor and Reverend James Woodall, former president of the Georgia National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.
In related news, Governor Brian Kemp recently signed House Bill 926 into law. Known as the Second Chance Workforce Act, it was sponsored by Reps. Matt Reeves (R-Duluth) and Mesha Mainor. This new law permits individuals with low-level municipal citation and misdemeanor charges to retain their driver’s licenses during their cases, provided that the charges do not relate to driving under the influence, reckless driving or child support issues. This provision enables them to continue commuting to work.
Dean of the House, State Representative Gerald Green (R-Cuthbert), along with Reps. Scott Hilton (R-Peachtree Corners), Deborah Silcox (R-Sandy Springs), and Farooq Mughal (D-Dacula) are co-sponsors of HB 926.
The debate will feature Rep. Mesha Mainor (R-Atlanta), Rev. James Woodall, and Fulton County Sheriff Candidates at Lindsey Street Baptist Church located at 550 Lindsay St NW in Atlanta.
