Representative Steven Sainz (R-St. Marys) has announced that his sponsored bill, House Bill 1489, has been officially signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. The legislation repeals the 2019 act that established the Camden County Spaceport Authority.

"After listening to our constituents, who resoundingly rejected the land purchase for the spaceport by more than 70 percent in a local referendum, it was clear what our community wanted," said Rep. Sainz. "This bill is a testament to our commitment to respect the will of the voters and focus on realistic economic development opportunities that bring real benefits to Camden County."

He further added, "This action underscores our dedication to effective governance and marks my second initiative to end the Camden Spaceport Authority following the referendum. I am immensely grateful to Governor Kemp for his leadership in signing this bill into law as it reflects the community’s choice and opens a path for future collaborations in economic initiatives that are more aligned with local needs. I am eager to continue working closely with the people of Camden County to ensure our community thrives through sensible and beneficial development.”

House Bill 682, which initially established the Camden County Spaceport Authority, was signed into law on May 6, 2019. The new legislation, HB 1489, nullifies the previous act in its entirety.
