Georgia's Attorney General Chris Carr stated that "far-left energy policies have been a disaster," emphasizing the need to prevent California from "dictating" Georgia's energy approach. Carr made his statement in a May 23 post on X.

"Far-left energy policies have been a disaster for consumers. We can't let CA dictate what happens in GA," said General Chris Carr, according to X. "That's why we filed suit to stop them from forcing their failed approach on the entire nation. We prioritize safe, reliable & affordable energy in the #1 state for business."

According to Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall, a 19-state coalition is urging the Supreme Court to declare unconstitutional the efforts of California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey, and Rhode Island to dictate American energy policy. These states have sued major energy companies over an alleged "climate crisis," seeking billions in damages and imposing severe penalties that would impact national energy consumption and production. The coalition argues that such actions raise significant constitutional issues and requests the Supreme Court to hear the case, according to a press release by the Office of the Alabama Attorney General.

Carr was appointed as Georgia's attorney general by then-Governor Nathan Deal in 2016 and was re-elected in November 2022. Since taking office, Carr has focused on addressing issues such as human trafficking, gang activity, and opioid misuse. This includes establishing the state's first Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit and Gang Prosecution Unit. Additionally, Carr previously served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development during which Georgia was recognized as the top state for business with substantial investment and job creation.
