Georgia's small business advocacy group, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), announced it will key-vote on the upcoming House decision regarding Senate Bill 68. This legislation aims to address lawsuit abuse and enhance protections for small businesses. The House is anticipated to cast its vote on Thursday.

Hunter Loggins, NFIB State Director, emphasized the organization's commitment to combating lawsuit abuse, stating, "Stopping lawsuit abuse is one of NFIB’s top priorities." He further noted that by key-voting this bill, they are signaling strong support from small business owners for the legislation. Loggins assured that every representative's vote would be communicated to their members and constituents.

Senate Bill 68 proposes several measures beneficial to small businesses. It includes provisions allowing jurors to understand actual medical expenses paid alongside claimed amounts by plaintiffs. Additionally, it seeks separate determinations for liability and award amounts by juries while shielding property owners from liabilities related to unavoidable crimes.

Loggins highlighted the financial strain caused by lawsuit abuse on insurance costs and resource allocation for small business owners. He urged lawmakers aiming to support local businesses' prosperity to endorse SB 68: “If lawmakers want to help local businesses thrive, they’ll vote yes on SB 68.”
